Join us at Eagle Ridge Academy on Tuesday, January 28, at 5:30 p.m. for a night of Classical classes, where you as the parent simply sit in on one of our classes. You become the student! From working through mental math strategies to responding in seminars, learning Latin to applying oracy skills, you’ll have a front row seat to Classical education. At the end of each session, teachers will share simple ways to extend this learning at home. Don’t miss this opportunity to see our mission and vision in action!
Interested parents must register for the event and choose their top classes to attend. Register here by Monday, January 6. Please note: you MUST register ahead of time for this event.
Class Descriptions:
- Writing with Ms. Schneider (K)
- Reading with Ms. Basic (1st)
- Mathematics with Ms. Keeley (3rd): Struggling to understand what happens during math in the classroom? How to find joy in mathematics when you’re not a “math person?” Math is for everyone! Come join us in a mathematical session where we explore ways to make math meaningful and walk through a math lesson with Mrs. Keeley.
- Recitation Ready! With Suzannah Toso; Classical Enrichment (School of Grammar): Are you Recitation Ready? Ever wondered of methods your scholar uses to memorize poems or what analysis looks like at the grammar stage? Join Mrs. Toso for her Classical Enrichment Session at our upcoming Classical In-Action Parent Night. Parents will analyze and memorize a short poem, all while using Orator 5 skills to help breathe life into their recitation.
- Music with Mr. Allen (Logic): Tired of being an adult? Wish that you could turn back time and go to your elementary music classroom? For one night only, we can make it happen! Come check out Music with Mr. Allen, where we will sing, connect, and dance the night away!
- History Seminar with Mr. Sundermeyer (Logic): History is defined as an interpretation of the past. Through the use of critical thinking, students in the School of Logic work daily to form their own historical interpretations. History with Mr. Sundermeyer will guide you through an exact lesson given to 8th grade students at Eagle Ridge Academy. Parents will use evidence-based reasoning to form historical interpretations, engaging critical thinking skills with other parents, just as your students do across Eagle Ridge Academy.
- Participatory Reading with Christine Kelash; English (School of Logic): Participatory reading is about elevating and amplifying the voices of poets and authors whose words strike a chord with the human experience. In this session, participants will both learn how this strategy engages learners at all levels and experience the profound impact of exploring beautiful language.
- Writing Complex Sentences with Mrs. Miskowiec; English Language Learning (School of Logic): Writing complex sentences is complex! Excellent writers know how to expand their sentences to provide all the information required. What should a great answer to a question look like, especially as our students move from the early academic stages to getting ready for post-secondary education? Join Mrs. Miskowiec, English Language Learners teacher, to practice expanding simple sentences in response to a reading from Homer’s The Odyssey. Parents, please join us for this simply complex session!
- Humanities with Mr. Lemon (Rhetoric)
- Art with Ms. Conner (Rhetoric)
