Dear Eagle Ridge Academy Community:                                                            

We are pleased to announce that at the Eagle Ridge Academy board meeting on Oct. 24, the board voted unanimously to appoint Julia Demakis-Haustein to a vacant teacher board position. Mrs. D-H will thus fill the teacher board seat that was left open earlier this year by the resignation of Mrs. Higgins and she will serve for the remainder of that term, through June of 2019.

Please note, there is still one open teacher seat on the board that was left open earlier in October by the resignation of Mr. Sutton. In our most recent call for nominations, we did not receive any nominations for teachers to fill that seat. Therefore, for the next several weeks, that position will be left vacant. This is certainly not an ideal situation so we implore you to look out among our wonderful teachers in the coming weeks and discuss board service with them. We will be putting out a new call for nominations after Thanksgiving.

As a reminder, Eagle Ridge Academy’s bylaws mandate that teachers at the academy should hold a majority of the board seats.

Board Member Criteria:

• A member of the Academy’s Board of Directors shall have a firm belief in the fundamental, traditional, Classical Education mission of the Academy and shall be fully committed to the charter school model.
• Directors shall govern in a manner that ensures adherence to the Eagle Ridge Academy Mission and Vision statements.
• Directors shall foster positive relationships with the Academy’s personnel and community, and with the community at large; oversee the financial stability of the Academy; and deal with school-related issues as prescribed in the Academy’s bylaws.

The purpose of the Board is to set the general direction and policy of the Academy, not to be involved with administrative or operational duties. This is a hardworking, strategic Board, and Board members can expect to spend roughly 12-15 hours per month contributing to Board efforts through meetings and assignments.

Please keep an eye out for a new call for nominations shortly after Thanksgiving break. In the mean time, please reach out to us with any questions.
