September 2018 Community Letter
Dear Eagle Ridge Academy Community,
We are five weeks into the school year, and I have been pleased with our students’ behavior, the calmness of hallways and lunchroom, and the overall organization of transportation and morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. We have been at our new facility for three years and it is really starting to come together.
Annual Report
Each year Eagle Ridge Academy publishes an Annual Report which includes information regarding test scores, finances, curriculum, teacher and student retention, and more. The Eagle Ridge Academy Board of Directors has reviewed the 2017-2018 Annual Report over the past five weeks and approved the report on Sept. 25. You may view the 2017-2018 Annual Report on our website.
Honoring Mrs. Marilyn Strand
Over the past two weeks, we have invited staff, parents, and students to share thoughts and ideas on how to honor Marilyn. The next step is to put together a small group comprised of staff, parents, and students to choose a few ideas to put into action. If you are interested in being part of this team, please email Mrs. Mary Cornelius, mcornelius@eagleridgeacademy.org, by Tuesday, October 2.
During the Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, Eagle Ridge Academy presented Mr. Stieg Strand with the Eagle Ridge Academy Flag that flew over our campus on Aug. 30 (the day that Marilyn passed away) and a flag proclamation which states we will lower the flag annually on Aug. 30.
Classical Parent Education Night – Wednesday, Oct. 17, 5:30 p.m. at Nova Classical Academy in St. Paul
You are invited to the second annual Classical Parent Education Night hosted in conjunction with the Minnesota Classical Education Conference, which Eagle Ridge Academy helped to found last year. This year’s conference will take place at Nova Classical Academy, 1455 Victoria Way W., St. Paul, MN 55102. The Parent Education program is titled “Cultivating Wonder Through Stories” and features Dr. Daniel Coupland, professor and chair of the English Department and Dean of Faculty at Hillsdale College.
Students in Grades K-12: You’re Invited to Join Flag Detail
Four years ago, Eagle Ridge Academy started a Flag Detail Team comprised of students of all ages. By honoring the American Flag, we represent Eagle Ridge Academy to the United States of America in a way that would make our Founding Fathers proud. This year, the Flag Detail Team is led by seniors Catherine Woods and Max Hasert.
We are accepting volunteers of all ages to join the Flag Detail Team for 2018-2019. The responsibilities of the Flag Detail Team are to post the American Flag the first day of every week and safely recover and fold the flag at the end of the week. A ceremonial team will be formed to present the colors at special events like Veterans Day and graduation. We will have at least two Flag Detail Teams. One team will meet at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of the week to post the colors and another team will meet at 2:45 p.m. on the last day of the week to recover the colors. We are looking for individuals who are trustworthy and who uphold the pillars in their daily and scholastic lives. Please respond to Catherine and Max at CatherineL.woods@comcast.net and happy.max.has@gmail.com if you are interested in undertaking this patriotic endeavor by answering the following questions by Friday, Sept. 28. Feel free to ask any clarifying questions you may have.
In your e-mail, please include and answer the following:
- Name, Grade, and Homeroom or Advisory Teacher. (All ages are welcome!)
- What does the American Flag mean to you, and how does it relate to Eagle Ridge Academy and the United States of America?
- What team would you prefer to join? Posting the colors on the first day of the week at 8:00 a.m. or recovering the colors the last day of the week at 2:45 p.m?
Sincerely,
Jason Ulbrich
Executive Director
